Strategies for eating more sustainably
- Choose local, seasonal foods.
- Know where and how your food is produced.
- Support food producers that respect the land and the people who work it.
- Increase your consumption of plant-based foods, which require less energy to produce.
- Buy sustainable animal protein with certifications such as Animal Welfare Approved, Certified Humane Raised and Handled, American Humane Certified or AGA-Certified Grassfed
- Learn about the certifications of sustainable foods served in residence halls on campus.
- Pack your lunch zero waste (reusable food and beverage containers, utensils, lunch bag and cloth napkin.)
- Swear off commercial bottled water. Refill your water bottle at one of the many hydration stations located on campus.

- Explore a sustainable food or Instagram account for ideas on sustainable eating, growing and community action.
- Look for signs in campus dining halls and cafes indicating food options that are grown on campus, locally sourced, fair trade, organic, etc.
